Favorite Quotes

In a learning society, learning is a journey, not a destination, a journey with peaks and valleys, breakthroughs and letdowns, a continuous cycle of never-ending exploration, followed by a few deeper periods of mastery.

HEALTH & BUBBLES
As flu epidemic and pandemics continue in the headlines educators will have an opportunity to be proactive. This along with, I have to admit, being fascinated with bubbles since infancy spurred me to look for a few sites for children's art and science activities dealing with health.

Here are few resource for Elementary teachers.

The SDA kids Corner - Enhancing health and the quality of life through sustainable cleaning products and practices.

The Scub Club - Sponsored by NSF an organization widely recognized for its scientific and technical expertise in the health and environmental sciences.

Sink Those Germs: Wash Your Hands - Promote hand washing to youth with activities such a the Glitter Experiment.

hygiene-educ.com - Hygiene education website proposed by the Institut Pasteur (ages 6-11)

Additional Link for Educators
The government has put out a site on updated health information Guidance for Schools for the Fall Flu Season for prevention so that schools can plan on how to deal with issues in a timely manner. A good place to check as we move through the fall semester.

Cyborg Feeling” by Lauren D'Apuzzo
Through use of a soundscape the jacket is meant to convey the tentative public and private relationships generated between humans and the cybernetic technologies keeping them alive.

"Shelter" by Meridith Coen

This terracotta sculpture is a personal expression of refuge. A pretend fortress constructed from soft blankets and sheets becomes a home with in a home, a place where I felt protected as a child from the physical elements as well as judgment from others and myself. It is a private place that exists for the sake of imagination and creativity alone, a notion we tend to forget as we get older.

My Teaching Philosophy

The philosophy and schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy have significantly impacted my thoughts and practices as an art educator. Throughout this approach, children are encouraged to explore their natural curiosities through an emergent, holistic curriculum. Children will not only communicate verbally and through wr… Continue

Yaaay for Art Educators!

Hey everybody! I just wanted to let you know there are still awesome jobs available out there for Art Education majors even if it isn't teaching in a school. I've recently been hired as the full-time Art Educator at the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, Alabama. This museum is currently working towards accreditation and my specific degree (B.A. in Art Education) helped secure me a spot on the museum team. Part of the accreditation process is that the museum hired a candidate with a degree in Ar… Continue

teaching philosophy as of 9/29/09

My goals as an art educator are to build confidence in young artists, help students develop an understanding of their artistic abilities and a desire to use and grow their abilities throughout life. Students learn about the ancient existence of art on Earth by experiencing and discussing art from cultures new and old. Thereby, students understand the vital purpose of art in human life and know their contribution to this ancient activity is important and worthwhile.
Furthermore, students gain a b… Continue

My Philosophy of Teaching

I start with the students and the prior knowledge and beliefs that they bring to my classroom regarding the subject to be learned. I help students to build bridges linking the content to be learned to their prior knowledge and to draw out any misconceptions they may hav… Continue

I'm an art teacher!

I have been offered a position as the art teacher at the brand new Nau Charter School in Port St. Lucie! I'm going to be the art teacher at a K-8 school with 750 students, and for the first year or so I will not have my own classroom. But it's a neat school with very friendly staff and a unique teaching model that I think is really interesting. I also get to build an art program from the ground up, even if I do have to start as "art on a cart" :) . Now I need some grants! Is there such a thing a… Continue
